Linda, I am sorry that your experiences growing up were so harsh and violent. No one should have to go through what you went through. I do not think it is unusual for many of us to feel that we are not living up to a certain standard, even those we place on ourselves. Our society is full of messages that tell us we are not good enough. We are not pretty enough, thin enough, compassionate enough, wealthy enough and so on. Even in places where the "not enough" is not intentional we can still feel that we are not complete; not good enough. In my own experience, I have found my worth is complete in the person of Jesus Christ. He, alone gives me value, and I do not have to rely on what I do, or who loves me, or how much I have accomplished to feel peace and fulfillment. Matthew 6:26 says, "Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?" Thanks for sharing your struggle. It is real! - Amy
